Community Art Projects
Mammoth Hugs
Mammoth Hugs was created during the spring and summer of 2024 as part of a gallery enhancement program. The project’s goal was to design an interactive photo opportunity for the Museum’s Prehistory Gallery, encouraging visitors to engage with history in a playful and creative way. In keeping with the Museum's commitment to sustainability, the installation was made entirely from recycled and compostable materials.
The mammoth's head was crafted from recycled newspaper, built over a wooden frame made from repurposed chipboard. This was then covered in paper mache, painted, and finished with a soft wool roving fur covering. The sculpture’s flexible trunk allows visitors to experience a "mammoth hug" as part of the interactive experience.
Community involvement was at the heart of this project, with members of the public invited to participate in the creation process. Throughout the school holidays, a series of drop-in workshops allowed visitors to contribute directly to the sculpture, making the final piece a true community effort.
Memories of Essex
Lower Thames Crossing Project
Memories of Essex is a series of workshops and outreach events designed to engage the public with the Lower Thames Crossing Project. As part of this initiative, I have facilitated several community art workshops, including two dedicated sessions focused on creating artwork inspired by the history of Thurrock and the personal memories of local residents. These workshops provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on their connections to the area, while also contributing to a collective artistic response to the ongoing Lower Thames Crossing development.

Wild About Walden
Wild about Walden was an art trail created as part of Saffron Walden Museum's summer art program. I designed a series of large, flat-pack lion sculptures, made from plywood, to be easily transported and displayed around the town. These sculptures were placed at key cultural and historical sites throughout Saffron Walden, with each lion being decorated by local schools, community groups, and the public during special events. The project aimed to make art accessible to all, encouraging participation and creativity.
The Wild about Walden art trail sought to bring the community together while introducing newcomers to the rich history, culture, and facilities that Saffron Walden has to offer. Through collaborative art-making, the project celebrated the town's vibrant heritage and fostered a sense of connection among residents and visitors alike.

A Picture of You
A Picture of You: A Portrait of Uttlesford Now was an installation created for the exhibition From Death Masks to Diaries. The installation aimed to capture the essence of the people of Uttlesford in that moment, offering a snapshot of the community’s diverse and personal stories.
The installation featured life casts of the fingers of over 50 local residents, created during both drop-in events and dedicated sessions with specific community groups, including individuals living with dementia and their carers. Alongside these tactile representations, participants filled out questionnaires designed to capture their personal stories, while photographic portraits—taken by myself and the artist Paul Bellany—provided a visual connection to their lives.
This project sought to celebrate the people of Uttlesford, highlighting their individuality and shared experiences within the larger fabric of the community.
